LAWNCARE TIPS
Watering
Your lawn needs 1 ½” inches of
water weekly. Apply enough water
to thoroughly soak the root zone.
This means watering all areas
for at least one hour, three times
weekly. Watering is especially important in the hot
summer to avoid drought stress. If your lawn does
become dormant in the summer, don’t worry.
It’s
just the lawn’s natural defense against drought. It
will come back as it gets the moisture it requires.
Lawn Cutting
Lawn cutting is an important
aspect of proper lawn care. No
more than 1/3 of the blade should
be cut off at one time. The lawn
should be consistently cut at least
once weekly all season long. Keep blades sharp.
The cutting height should be kept at 2 ½ to 3
inches. Leave the grass clippings on your lawn to
recycle nutrients and moisture.
Benefits of a Healthy Lawn...
Air Quality
- An average lawn absorbs pollutants such as soot, dust and carbon dioxide while producing enough oxygen every day to meet the needs of a family of 4.
Cooling
- The front lawns of 8 houses has the cooling effect of about 70 tons of air conditioning!
Soil Quality
- A healthy lawn prevents erosion by water or wind and the loss of valuable topsoil - less mud and dust in the house.
Water Quality
- Healthy lawns absorb rainfall 4 to 6 times more effectively than farm fields, returning the moisture to the water table where it can again be used by everyone.
Noise Reduction
- Turf effectively absorbs sound creating a quieter environment for your home.
